General

Voltage control relays are designed to protect devices with sensitive operating voltage values from faults that may be caused by mains voltage fluctuations.

Usage and Working Principle

  • Make the connections of the device in accordance with connection scheme.
  • Set the required settings of the device according to the operating voltage values of the load. When the device is energized, if the voltage values are normal according to the set values, the relay gets activated and the relay LED is turned on.
  • In the case of models with phase sequence control, the phase sequence must also be correct. When the voltage values go out of the set values, the related fault LED is on, it waits until the delay time (DT), after the time has elapsed, the relay gets de-activated and the relay LED goes out.
  • When the voltages return to their normal values, the device waits until the reset time (RT), after the time has elapsed the relay gets activated and the relay LED is turned on.
  • The High Voltage Protection function is deactivated when the HV control knob is set to Off.
  • The Low Voltage Protection function is deactivated when the LV control knob is set to Off.
Relay Status Outputs:
Relay is Activated: 2 (COM) and 3 (NC) short circuit, 1 (NC) and 2 (COM) open circuit.
Relay is De-activated: 2 (COM) and 1 (NC) short circuit, 3 (NC) and 2 (COM) open circuit.

Required Settings and Error Notifications

  • HV (High Voltage Set Value): When the voltage rises above this value, the HV LED turns on.
  • LV (Low Voltage Set Value): When the voltage drops below this value, the LV LED turns on.
  • DT (Delay Time): The set duration to wait before entering the fault state.
  • RT (Reset Time): The duration to wait for the relay to pull/activate once voltages return to normal limits.

Protection Functions

  • High Voltage Protection (Entering Fault): If one or more phases rise above the high voltage set value, the HV LED turns on, the device waits for the delay time (DT), and the relay de-activates (relay LED turns off).
  • High Voltage Protection (Exiting Fault): When all phases drop 3% below the high voltage set value, the device waits for the reset time (RT). Afterward, the HV LED turns off, and the relay activates (relay LED turns on).
  • High Voltage Fuse Protection (Entering Fault): If one or more phases exceed 1.5 times the rated operating voltage, the HV LED flashes. After 100 milliseconds, the relay de-activates, and the relay LED turns off.
  • High Voltage Fuse Protection (Exiting Fault): When all phases drop 3% below the high voltage set value, the device waits for the reset time (RT). Afterward, the HV LED turns off, and the relay activates.
  • Low Voltage Protection (Entering Fault): If one or more phases fall below the low voltage set value, the LV LED turns on, the device waits for the delay time (DT), and the relay de-activates.
  • Low Voltage Protection (Exiting Fault): When all phases rise 3% above the low voltage set value, the device waits for the reset time (RT). After the time passes, the LV LED turns off, and the relay activates.
  • Low Voltage Fuse Protection (Entering Fault): If one or more phases fall below 0.5 times the rated operating voltage, the LV LED flashes. After 100 milliseconds, the relay de-activates.
  • Low Voltage Fuse Protection (Exiting Fault): When all phases rise 3% above the high voltage set value, the device waits for the reset time (RT). After the time passes, the LV LED turns off, and the relay activates.
  • Inadequate Supply Voltage Protection (Entering Fault): LV and HV LEDs flash when N-L1 voltage (for GKM-02/02F) or L1-L2 voltage (for GKT-03/03F) is lower than 0.4 times the nominal operating voltage. After 100 milliseconds, the relay de-activates.
  • Inadequate Supply Voltage Protection (Exiting Fault): When N-L1 or L1-L2 voltage values rise 3% above the low voltage set value, the device waits for the reset time (RT). Afterward, both LV and HV LEDs turn off, and the relay activates.
  • Phase Sequence Protection: If the phase sequence of the device is reversed, the phase sequence error LED (X) lights up, and the relay remains deactivated. Phase absence constitutes a phase sequence fault as well.

Maintenance

Switch off the device and release it from all connections. Clean the body of the device with a dry swab. Do not use any conductor or chemical substance that might damage the device. Make sure the device operates correctly after cleaning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main function of a Voltage Control Relay?
Voltage control relays are designed to protect devices with sensitive operating voltage values from faults caused by mains voltage fluctuations.
How do High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) protection mechanisms work?
When voltages rise above the set HV limit or drop below the set LV limit, the relay waits for a set delay time (DT) before de-activating to protect connected equipment. It resets and reactivates once voltages stabilize for the duration of the reset time (RT).
What happens if there is a Phase Sequence error or Phase Absence?
If the phase sequence is reversed or there is a phase absence, the phase sequence error LED (X) lights up, and the relay will not activate to prevent potential damage.
What precautions should be taken during installation?
Always use the device in dry environments according to the manual. Make sure to mount a switch and circuit breaker nearby for quick operator access and label them clearly.
How should the device be maintained and cleaned?
Switch off the device and release all connections before cleaning. Clean the casing with a dry swab. Never use conductive materials or chemical substances which could damage the device.
What is the warranty period for this device?
We provide an 18-month guarantee on all products. If any quality issues arise, a solution will be provided within 5 days.
